INTRODUCTION TO THE CLUB

Home Ground:- Jarrold’s Field,
Polo Grounds, New Inn
Pontypool, Torfaen.

The Club provides football for youths between 6 to 16 years old.

The Mini section starts at under 7's and progresses to under 11's, this section is classed as non competitive.

The next group we class as league football, the age groups here are under 12's, 14's and 16's.

All players need to be registered with the club via Gwent County F. A. and all players should hold a licence ID card (this will be held by your team manager). This registration will cost you £2.00, payable to Gwent County F. A. it is a one off payment to cover the cost of your registration with the League. The league will require 2 x passport type photos to attach to the rear of the registration card (green for mini's, yellow for competitive), when you are old enough to progress to competitive football (under 12's) you will need to change your card from green to yellow, the same process will be carried out.

The Club has a policy of charging an annual subscription fee this is set each year to what is considered an adequate fee to allow the club to run. As with other clubs and organisations, there are numerous bills to be paid every season i.e.
The hire of the fields (fields are hired from the council @ £8.00 per match)
The cost of the kits (approx. £300.00 - £400.00 per team. A kit only lasts so long)
The upkeep/maintenance of our changing rooms (in a way we are fortunate to own our own club changing rooms, however, we have to pay for the upkeep and maintenance)
We have to pay Electric, Gas and Water bills
The cost of entrance fees for various competitions throughout the season.
The cost of winter training facilities approximately £400.00 per month

The list goes on.

CLUB PLAYING FACILITIES

As I have stated we are fortunate to own our own changing rooms and we are allocated each season two pitches at the Jarrold’s Field site, Polo Grounds, New Inn. During fine dry weather both of these pitches are playable and are of a reasonable standard. Unfortunately, during the winter months, it has become a fact that we lose one of our pitches due to the nature of the fields and the poor drainage. It is not uncommon that during the season, on a Saturday we would have three “league” teams playing home fixtures. With one pitch out of action due to these reasons, things become very difficult and additional strain is put on our only remaining pitch. Over the past few seasons this has become a common occurrence. This problem affects our five “league” teams (teams that play 11 a side football using the full pitch).

In addition we have up to six “mini” teams (teams that play 8 a side mini football on half a pitch). Due to lack of space we have unable at Jarrold's Field our mini pitches are set up at PILC's Sports Club a few hundred yards up the road from our home ground. Taking all of this into account, and the fact that mini football is played on Saturday and Sunday mornings, it has been the case that in bad weather games have been called off by Torfaen Council ( the pitch owners), this being the case the Club will call off all football for that weekend, mini's included. Please abide by this ruling as this will also cause issues with Club & Player Insurance, if games are called off and you decide to ignore this and play, if anything happens the insurance policy becomes void.

Due to the lack of facilities at our pitch during the winter months to hire the West Monmouth School facilities, - the indoor gym and outdoors Astro Turf - for training purposes. Each team from under 8’s to under 16’s have allocated training evenings, either indoor or outdoor, dependant on the age group, these training times will be shown on the web site during this period.

Enough about that for now, lets get on with the football, have a good season and enjoy your football with Griffithstown AFC.

Neil Beech.
Club Sec.
